Father Charged With Killing Daughter’s Alleged Attacker
NEW YORK (AP) _ When his 14-year-old daughter said she was stripped and molested, a father hunted down one of her alleged attackers, beat him with a hammer, then shot him to death as he tried to run.
Darrel Boone was arraigned on charges of second-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon, said Patrick Clark, spokesman for the Brooklyn District Attorney’s office.
The 39-year-old father, a maintenance man with no history of arrests, was jailed on $125,000 bail.
Authorities were investigating the daughter’s allegations, Clark said Wednesday.
The slaying happened Monday night after Boone’s daughter accused two youths of dragging her to the roof of their Brooklyn apartment building and sexually assaulting her. She later identified one of the attackers to her father as a neighborhood teen-ager.
Boone confronted the youth near the building entrance, police said. Witnesses told police the infuriated suspect beat the teen with a hammer, then shot him in the back when he tried to run.
Lamont Daniels, 17, died a short time later at a hospital.
