Rain causes issues in southwest Tennessee, north Mississippi
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Officials say heavy rain in southwest Tennessee and northwest Mississippi has led to flooding that closed roads and sent water into homes and cars.
Shelby County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Capt. Anthony Buckner said two roads in the southern part of the Tennessee county were closed early Friday. Buckner said one has reopened and the other is expected to be usable later Friday.
News outlets and social media showed some homes and apartments experiencing minor flooding in Shelby County and in Mississippi’s DeSoto County.
National Weather Service forecaster Marlene Michelson said Olive Branch in DeSoto County received more than 8 inches of rain in the 24-hour period ending at 7 a.m. Friday. Michelson says the weather service’s office in Memphis received more than 4 inches.
More rain is forecast this weekend.
