New equipment helping people get in shape at YMCA Wellness Center
I have seen lots of new faces since the start of January and it is so exciting to see so many people exercising at all different hours of the day. We have some great things happening here at the YMCA. In January, we welcomed some new equipment to our wellness floor. We have added quite a few new iron grip plates as well as a new piece of cardio equipment. I am the most excited about, and I would like to introduce you, our ZR8000 Zero Runner from Octane Fitness.
As stated by Octane Fitness, The Zero Runner offers the same great workout, but without the pain of repeated impact. Enabling virtually anyone to walk, jog or run safely and comfortably. The ZR8000 offers state-of-the-art design that replicates an exercisers natural form, but eliminates the stressful impact. The ZR8000 is built with cutting-edge innovation and without a belt, deck or cord this machine revolutionizes cardiovascular workouts and enables exercisers to maximize workout effectiveness while minimizing discomfort.
Users can choose from 15 resistance levels and 11 workout programs to personalize intensity and stimulate better results. The ZR8000 is equipped with a smart console that will track your pace, heart rate, mileage and best of all it will track your stride activity. It does take a little while to get use to the motion of the machine. I have already put a few miles on it and the first time I tried it, it did take me about 10 minutes before I felt comfortable with the correct motion. If you are interested in giving it a try, you can ask a trainer for help and we can assist you.
We also have some events coming up here at the Y this next month. Our next Y-Lose It will start Monday and go through March 30. Y-Lose it is an eight-week health and fitness journey for you. Participants are put on teams and you will workout together with a coach twice a week during the eight-week challenge. Your coach will conduct weekly weigh-ins and you will learn healthy habits that last a lifetime. The group that loses the biggest percentage of body fat will win $50 each. Cost is $90 for members and $180 for nonmembers.
We have also started another year of our Hundred Club. Cost is $5 per member per year. Each participant must complete the designated miles in their preferred area with the calendar year. All members who are successful will be recognized for their accomplishments at the end of 2019. You can choose to earn miles from Exercise for Life, Cycle for Life, Run for life, Walk for Life or Swim for Life. Each participant is responsible for logging their miles at the YMCA.
The YMCA will also be hosting a formal dance night for fathers and daughters as well as mothers and sons. There will be good music, great food (including homemade cheesecake) and lots of fun from 6-9 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9. Prices for members is $25 for couple or $40 for family. Prices for nonmembers is $35 for couple or $60 for family. Price includes admission to the dance, dinner, a picture, a family movie after the dance, a flower for each child and more!
