Acclaimed pork sammie spot opening new location near airport
Either way you slice it, the home of one of San Antonio’s best sandwiches has plans for a new spot on the Northeast Side near the San Antonio airport.
Chef and owner Jorge Rojo said the new Ro-Ho Pork & Bread at 8617 N. New Braunfels could either be a second location for his restaurant, currently in operation downtown near West César É. Chávez Boulevard and Santa Rosa Avenue, or a total move. Ro-Ho features a simple menu that focuses on pork carnitas served in nachos, tacos and in its torta ahogada, which was featured by the Express-News in April as one of “five sandwiches to eat right now.”
“The biggest problem right now is staffing,” Rojo said. “I don’t know if we’ll be able to keep both locations up and running. There’s still a lot of things we need to figure out.”
Rojo has had the new space since 2015 and just put up signage a few weeks ago. All of the indoor and outdoor seating has been set up, and the new property features a large kitchen that will allow Rojo to bake all of his bread on site.
Rojo, who was behind the downtown counter making sandwiches Tuesday, said that because of ongoing construction and permit issues, he doesn’t have an opening date for the new location.
