Chastain’s Injury Not As Serious
SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) _ Brandi Chastain’s broken right foot isn’t as serious an injury as first thought, and she should return two weeks earlier than expected to the WUSA champion Bay Area CyberRays.
Chastain, who made the winning penalty kick for the United States in the 1999 World Cup, is out of the walking boot she had worn since September. She was injured during a game with the U.S. national team at the Nike U.S. Women’s Cup in Chicago.
She initially was diagnosed with two fractures and was expected to be out 8-to-12 weeks. Further examination revealed just one broken bone.
She plans to resume jogging next week. The CyberRays will hold an offseason training camp Nov. 5-16, and Chastain hopes to participate.
