NEW YORK (AP) _ Goalkeeper Joe Cannon of the San Jose Earthquakes is the Major League Soccer Goalkeeper of the Year after posting eight shutouts in 26 games this season.
Cannon led the league with 13 victories and a 1.10 goals-against average. He had 100 saves.
Carlos Bocanegra of the Chicago Fire was selected as the Defender of the Year. Bocanegra, rookie of the year in 2000, is the youngest winner of the award at 23 years, 5 months.
Midfielder Chris Klein of the Kansas City Wizards is the Comeback Player of the Year. Klein, who tore his right ACL during the offseason, had seven goals and five assists in 25 games.
