Toronto Leaves Players Behind

March 10, 2000

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. (AP) _ When Toronto manager Jim Fregosi says the bus leaves at 8 a.m., he means it, even if his starting pitcher isn’t aboard.

Two minutes after the Blue Jays’ bus left Grant Field in Dunedin for Friday’s game against Rangers, pitchers Nerio Rodriguez and Pasqual Coco came speeding into the player’s lot.

The bus had just left, so assistant general manager Dave Stewart chauffeured the tardy twosome to the game, arriving about an hour behing the bus.

After a 1-2-3 first inning, Rodriguez allowed five runs and four hits in the second, including Tom Evans’ grand slam.
