Maine education foundation surpasses half million in awards
PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — A Maine educational foundation says it has surpassed $500,000 in awards to students in the state over the past two years.
The MES Foundation says it has awarded $550,000 to 25 winners of the Richard H. Pierce Memorial Scholarship and the MES Foundation Scholarship. The Pierce scholarship provided 10 Maine high school graduates with $5,000 each in July.
The scholarship was established to honor Pierce, who founded Maine Education Services 30 years ago and died in 2011. It’s based on academic merit and financial need, and is renewable up to four years.
Three other Maine residents were selected to receive the MES Foundation Scholarship. The $5,000 scholarship is renewable for up to two years.
