Threatening message found at Southern School being investigated
Authorities are investigating a threatening message found written on a wall at Southern High School in Wymore.
The school posted to its Facebook page Wednesday that an unidentified student wrote a threatening statement in a restroom at the school.
School district officials reacted immediately to the threat and worked closely with law enforcement to investigate the message.
Superintendent Chris Prososki declined to elaborate on the message or investigation, but said law enforcement from the Gage County Sheriff’s Office and Wymore Police Department were at the school Thursday and Friday, and there have been no issues.
“Today, we want to reassure everyone that this is a positive and safe learning environment for students and staff,” he said. “In today’s day and age, it’s the highest priority to ensure students’ safety at school.”
The district urged parents to reiterate with their students that these sorts of threats are not funny or a game. The school district and law enforcement will take every threatening statement seriously and will react to them.
The district allowed excused absences from school Thursday for parents who were uncomfortable sending their children to school.
