Dow Up 8; Nasdaq Jumps 30

NEW YORK (AP) _ The Dow Jones industrial average is up eight points in today’s early going. Advancers on the New York Stock Exchange hold a 6-5 lead over decliners.

The Nasdaq Composite Index is up 30 points and the S&P 500 Index is up three points.

There’s little for the market to move on today.

Microsoft shares figure to recover a little of yesterday’s modest decline, so it’s not likely we’ll see any downward pressure on the high-techs today.

The technology sector helped the Nasdaq to its seventh record finish in a row yesterday.

The economic calendar is free of significant items.

In the way of corporate news, Wal-Mart has released earnings that once again topped analysts’ estimates.

And Cisco Systems is expected to post strong earnings after the closing bell this afternoon.
