Polish TV station fined for airing American gangster film
WARSAW, Poland (AP) _ Poland’s national broadcasting authority is fining a private TV station for showing an excessively violent movie during prime time, a spokeswoman said Thursday.
Polsat, the only nationwide private television channel, aired ``Showdown in Little Tokyo,″ a 1991 American gangster movie starring Brandon Lee and Tia Carrere, on March 12. The movie includes many murder and rape scenes.
Anna Kowalewska of the National Radio and Television Council said the 1993 radio and television law forbids broadcasting programs that can have a detrimental effect on youth between 6 a.m. and 11 p.m.
``Showdown in Little Tokyo″ aired at 8 p.m.
Kowalewska said Polsat will be fined, but the amount has not been set.
Polsat officials were not available for comment.
