Village of Harrison Awarded Rural Development Grant

September 12, 2018

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Deb Fischer, a member of the Senate Agriculture Committee, issued the following statement today after the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced that the Village of Harrison in Sioux County will receive a $31,800 grant from the Community Facilities Grants program:

“It’s wonderful to see the Village of Harrison receive this critical grant to purchase updated technology for the area’s first responders. With the new electric cot, rescue personnel will be able to transport patients to the hospital faster and more efficiently.”

This Rural Development investment will be used to purchase an electric cot for the rescue unit’s ambulance. The current cot is not electric and requires first responders to wait for additional help to load and unload a patient, wasting precious time. Decreasing the amount of time to transport a patient is especially vital considering the nearest hospital is an hour away from the village. The new cot will help rescue personnel transport patients suffering from substance overdose and physical or mental health emergencies.
