Knee Forces Hampton’s Retirement

May 26, 2000

NEW YORK (AP) _ New York Liberty center Kym Hampton retired Thursday because of a knee injury.

Hampton, 37, said earlier that she would retire at the end of the season. She averaged 9.3 points and 5.8 rebounds in three seasons for the WNBA team.

``I’m extremely disappointed that I cannot play another season,″ Hampton said. ``Playing professionally in the United States was always a dream to me, and it has been a privilege to be associated with the Liberty for the last three years.″
