Avorah Henken, 92, Waupun

Avorah Henken, 92, Waupun, passed away peacefully Friday, Sept. 7, 2018, at Prairie Ridge Assisted Living in Waupun.

Avorah was born July 29, 1926, in the town of Chester, the daughter of Tom and Nellie Derksen Bresser. On Sept. 24, 1948, she married Alfred L. Henken in the town of Trenton. Following their marriage the couple moved to the town of Chester where they farmed most of their married lives. Avorah did volunteer work at Continental Manor in Randolph. She was a member of Emmanuel Reformed Church in Waupun. Avorah enjoyed gardening, crocheting and doing puzzles.

Avorah is survived by a daughter, Noreen (Allen) Van Buren of Fox Lake and their children, Trisha (Cory) Kok, Kim Van Buren (special friend, David G. Vande Zande Jr.); great-grandchildren, Brayden and Brielle Kok; a son, Ross (Jody) Henken of Burnett and their children, Ellie (Matt) White and Joell (Casey) Heiman; great-grandchildren, Ethan Koopmans, Ian White, and Laura White; a brother, David (Judy) Bresser of Burnett; sisters-in-law, Ruth Buwalda of Waupun and Millie Henken of Burnett; and nieces and nephews.

Avorah was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred in 1999; a brother, Carl Bresser; brother-in-law, Bernes Henken; and stepbrother-in-law, Wiebe Buwalda.

A funeral service will be held Friday, Sept. 14, at 3 p.m. at First Reformed Church in Waupun with the Rev. Barry Lang officiating. Burial will follow at Alto Cemetery. Friends and relatives may call on the family Friday from 1 p.m. until the time of service.

The family thanks the caregivers at Prairie Ridge, Agnesian Hospice Hope, Sandy, Kristy, and Chaplain Bill.
