Police: Hempfield man attacked Greensburg residents with knife, snow shovel

November 20, 2018

A Hempfield man allegedly threatened two Greensburg residents Saturday with a BB gun and a knife and hit one of them in the face with a snow shovel, according to police.

Eric Charles Himler, 45, allegedly waved the gun at a man and woman after they came outside of their home on Concord Avenue Rear when they heard a noise, police said in a complaint. Officers were called there at 11:30 p.m. and arrested Himler, who later told investigators that he went to his mother’s home next door after she reported to him that her neighbors were arguing.

During the fight between Himler and the two residents, the woman was struck in the face twice with a snow shovel, police said. He allegedly swung the knife at the male resident, who punched Himler in the face twice, police said.

Himler is charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, harassment and public drunkenness. He was being held in the Westmoreland County Prison on $50,000 bail. A Nov. 8 preliminary hearing is set.
