NorthPoint To Close DSL Network
EMERYVILLE, Calif. (AP) _ NorthPoint Communications, Inc. will shut down its high-speed DSL network after attempts to secure additional funding for the company fell flat.
NorthPoint is currently operating under Chapter 11 bankruptcy and is in the process of liquidating its assets.
``Absent funding, NorthPoint is taking immediate steps to take down service. NorthPoint advises its customers to expect network outages and termination of DSL services immediately,″ the company said in a statement released Tuesday.
NorthPoint urged customers to contact their Internet Service Providers for further information regarding their online services.
On January 16, 2001, NorthPoint president and CEO Elizabeth Fetter said a failed attempt to merge with Verizon put her company in a poor position to continue operations.
