Parma 3, Royal Antwerp 1
WEMBLEY, England (AP) _ Lorenzo Minotti and Alessandro Melli scored first-half goals Wednesday night, leading Parma of Italy to a 3-1 victory over Royal Antwerp of Belgium in the final of the European Cup Winners Cup.
Minotti scored in the eighth minute, but Cisse Severeyns tied the score three minutes later. Melli put Parma ahead for good in the 29th minute and Stefano Cuoghi scored with seven minutes to go.
It was the first European trophy for Parma, which is fourth in the Italian League this season with a 14-9-7 record. It also was the start of a possible sweep of the European trophies for Italy. AC Milan plays Olympique Marseille of France in the European Champions Cup final on May 26, while Juventus of Turin has a 3-1 lead over Borussia Dortmund of Germany going into the second leg of the UEFA Cup final, which is a home-and-home, total-goals series.
Italy swept the European trophies in 1990.
