Longmont City Council this weekend will review its long-term vision of the community’s future and the status of short-term progress toward reaching those goals.
Council will gather Friday and possibly Saturday morning for a retreat to discuss the work plan it adopted at is last retreat in May .
The revisit of the work plan and its goals — and possible updates and revisions to the plan — are a few of the items slated to be discussed. Also on the agenda:
• A review of city department reports on accomplishments in 2018 and what is in departments’ work plans for 2019.
• A discussion of what Longmont needs to do to accomplish city council’s goal of moving to “a 100 percent clean, renewable energy supply ,” generated from carbon-free sources such as wind and solar, by 2030.
• A discussion of “communications and involvement” under the theme of “How do we ensure that our residents are informed and engaged?”
• An evaluation of council “communication initiatives,” such as the Friday morning work sessions prior to Tuesday night meetings; the monthly “Coffee with Council” opportunities for people to meet informally with two or more of the council members on Saturday mornings; and the twice-a-year open forums council holds for people to comment on any issue.
Both days of the council retreat are open to the public. The last item on each day’s agenda is an opportunity for public comment.
Council could decide to cancel the Saturday morning session if, by day’s end Friday, it determines items on the Friday agenda do not need further discussion.
