Pickup going wrong way hits dump truck, 1 dead

FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) — New Jersey State Police say the driver of a pickup died after he drove the wrong way and slammed head-on into a dump truck.

The crash occurred early Thursday in the northbound lanes of Route 55 in Franklin Township in Gloucester County.

State police say the pickup was headed south in the northbound lanes when it hit the dump truck, which was loaded with sand. Both vehicles caught fire.

The name of the pickup driver has not been released.

The dump truck driver was hospitalized.

The section of road was closed for hours for cleanup and the investigation.
