PRINCE’S HOME JAM SESSION WILL BE RELEASED FRIDAY

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The new Prince album, based off his work tape, is presented just as he recorded it, complete with coughs and his request to someone to flip over the cassette. “Piano and a Microphone 1983” is a 35-minute recording Prince made at his home studio 35 years ago. It includes a quick version of “Purple Rain,” as well as a version of “Strange Relationship” that ended up on his “Sign O’ The Times” album. Keyboardist Lisa Coleman of The Revolution, who wrote the liner notes, calls it “a great little slice of history.” She says, “You could literally teach a class from this tape if you went into it and deconstructed it.” ″Piano and a Microphone 1983″ is out Friday.

STEVE AOKI DETAILS WHAT GETS A FAN A CAKE

LONDON (AP) — Making a good sign will get you a cake in the face, and it’s a desirable thing, if you happen to be at a Steve Aoki (ay-OH’-kee) concert. Aoki says he usually has ten cakes for smashing into fans’ faces per show, so “it’s like ten lucky lottery winners.” Usually he looks for the most creative signs or the fans with the most expressive faces. There’s another key factor to being chosen for cake: being up front. Aoki says he tells fans in the back their signs are amazing, but he just can’t reach that far.
