An unmarked Adams County Sheriff’s Office vehicle was broken into in Firestone on Monday with the suspect making off with tactical gear.

Firestone spokeswoman Katie Hansen said the break-in occurred during the morning hours of Monday. The unmarked deputy vehicle was parked in the resident’s garage when it was broken into.

Hansen said “tactical gear and other police related items” were stolen out of the car. Police radio traffic indicated a badge, a gun and a bullet-proof vest were among the items stolen.

At this time, no suspects have been publicly identified.

Hansen said the town and the police department were not commenting further on the matter because the case was still under investigation and the “unique nature of this case.”

The Adams County Sheriff’s Office referred inquiries to Firestone, since the case is under their jurisdiction.
