Donald E. Nielsen Career and Technical Training facility near completion
NORFOLK - The Donald E. Nielsen Career and Technical Training facility in West Point will open its doors at the end of the month.
At the Northeast Community College Board of Governors meeting Thursday President Dr. Michael Chipps gave an update on the facility and how it will impact local and future students.
Dr. Chipps said the facility will work in collaboration with eight area high schools.
“Our faculty will be teaching those in various career and technical areas like manufacturing, construction, welding, nursing, and agriculture to give better exposure to high school students.”
Dr. Chipps said the facility will also host traditional students as well as offer center for enterprise courses for individuals that are already in various career fields.
He believes the school will be a national model that community colleges and universities will keep their eye on to see how well it works out.
An open house and ribbon cutting is set for March 19th at 10 A.M.
