September 21, 2018

An outage left 1,600 customers without power Thursday afternoon in east Odessa.

Gus Ortega, the customer operations manager at Oncor Electric, said over the phone that about 80 percent of the 1,600 people affected have had their power restored.

Ortega said the cause of the power outage has yet to be determined. He said there are crews in the area working to get power to the rest of the city.

According to an Ector County Independent School District Facebook post, Nimitz Middle School was without power before 4 p.m.

The University of Texas at the Permian Basin tweeted “All afternoon classes have been cancelled. Non-essential personnel affected by the power outage may go home. A decision will be made on evening classes pending any changes. Oncor (Electric) is aware of the outage and attempting to resolve the problem.”
