Arrests in Baby’s Starvation Death
APPLE VALLEY, Calif. (AP) _ A pastor and his wife were arrested and charged with murder in the starvation death of their 5-month-old son.
Mark Boesch, 42, and his 39-year-old wife, Janette Boesch, were arrested Wednesday after months of investigation.
The coroner said the cause of death was ``severe malnutrition due to maternal nutritional deprivation.″ Ms. Boesch only breastfed Timothy and told a doctor in July she refused to supplement the baby’s nutrition despite his emaciated condition, according to the autopsy report.
Timothy weighed 7 pounds, 12 ounces at birth on June 9. He died Nov. 8 weighing slightly more than 6 pounds, according to the autopsy report. The couple have seven other children ranging from 2 to 15 years old.
``I don’t know if any reason was given to allow a child to starve to death. That’s why we sought murder charges against them. All the other children appeared in good health,″ San Bernardino County sheriff’s spokesman Chip Patterson said.
Deputy District Attorney Kay Neshat said it wasn’t a death penalty case. She declined to give other details, saying they would come out during the preliminary hearing.
Boesch is the pastor of Grace Chapel of The Desert Church in Hesperia. The area is some 90 miles northeast of Los Angeles.
