PETALUMA, Calif. (AP) _ The father of a 12-year-old girl whose abduction and slaying gained national attention is taking his child safety agenda to President Clinton.

''I want to know how he's going to use the resources at his command to push an agenda of safety for children in this country,'' said Marc Klaas, father of Polly Klaas.

The White House requested the meeting Monday after a television appearance in which Klaas said he'd like to meet Clinton, Klaas said.

Klaas has used national talk shows to push child safety since Polly's body was found earlier this month. The girl was kidnapped from her bedroom Oct. 1 as she played a board game with friends.

Parolee Richard Allen Davis was charged in the crime. Klaas and others have criticized the criminal justice system for failing to keep repeat felons behind bars.
