County Democrats holding election workshop

January 4, 2019

The Democratic Women of Somerset County are providing a workshop for any Democrat interested in learning more about local elections.

“READY SET RUN!” will be held from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Jan. 26 in the Summit Highlands Meeting Room at Hidden Valley Resort. The workshop will include panels of local and regional officeholders and former candidates and will include presentations on topics such as communication strategies, campaign law, fundraising, campaigns and dates/deadlines.

The Democratic Women of Somerset County began meeting in 2016, and several members have run successful local campaigns for elected office. The group is now working to encourage more Democrats to get on the ballot and fill empty positions in Somerset County.

“It is striking how few people ran for school boards, borough councils, township supervisors, mayors, auditors, elections officials and many other positions in the last several elections,” the group stated in a press release. “Since Democracy depends on participation from citizens, the DWSC is sponsoring this workshop to give people the information they need and to encourage more candidates to be part of the process in their community.

The workshop is intended for Democrats who are interested in learning about the electoral process as well as those who have already decided to run for office. People can register for the event at www.readysetrunsomerset.eventbrite.com. There is a registration fee.
