Brewton-Parker, Ga. 8, Bellevue, Neb. 4

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (AP) _ Pete Franciosi’s two-run triple off the right field wall highlighted a four-run sixth inning and Brewton-Parker, Ga., went on to beat Bellevue, Neb., 8-4 for the NAIA baseball championship Friday.

``I guess everybody was right. We are the No. 1 team in the nation,″ Brewton-Parker coach Mike Robins said of his top-ranked and top-seeded team.

Brewton-Parker (64-7) broke a 3-3 tie with a run in the fifth, then put away its 31st straight victory with four in the sixth.

``The sixth inning was the turning point of the game,″ said coach Mike Evans, who led Bellevue (43-16) to the 1995 national title. He said his team was ``in a tough situation getting that far behind.″

Brewton-Parker starter Derek Gooden (14-1) pitched five innings, giving up nine hits and three runs, all earned. Losing pitcher Todd Schmieding (5-4) gave up eight hits, four runs and walked five in 4 1-3 innings.
