Strive Triathlon Donates To Livestrong At The YMCA

The Strive Olympic Triathlon presented $500 to the YMCA Livestrong Fund in memory of Tom Jones, owner of Around Town Bicycles in Wilkes-Barre. It also presented $7,000 to the Anthracite Scenic Trails Association to benefit the Back Mountain Trail. The locally run race grows each year and presents all its proceeds to local charities. Last year, the organization donated $4,500 to the Back Mountain Trail. The Strive Olympic Triathlon is entering its fourth year as the premier triathlon in Northeast Pennsylvania. The race is held each July at Beech Mt. Lakes in Drums. This year’s race will be held Sunday, July 28. For information, visit www.strivetri.com. In years past, the race donated all of the proceeds to benefit outdoor activities in the area, giving more than $11,000 in the last two years for the continued development of the Back Mountain Trail. This year the board voted to donate a portion of the proceeds to YMCA’s Livestrong program in memory of Tom Jones, a friend and advocate for the cycling and the triathlon community. At the Livestrong at the YMCA presentation, first row, from left, are Kim Seward, Linda Reilly, Beth Slock, Lenny Trullio, and David Bass. Second row: Joe Sabatini, Jim Thomas, and Mike Banks. Third row: Bob Kelly, and Patti Goodenow.
