Registration Open for 16th Annual Chick Clark Kids Fishing Program

Registration is open for Chick Clark Kids’ Fishing Program, a clinic for children under age 15 that will be March 23 at at Izaak Walton Pond in Longmont.

The 16th annual event includes a free fishing clinic for kids provided by Bennett’s Tackle Shop of Berthoud, lunch provided by the Longmont Optimists and free rods and reels provided by Colorado Parks and Wildlife to the first 250 registered children who participate in the fishing clinic. Children younger than 15 do not require a fishing license.

Izaak Walton Park’s 15.7-acre pond is exclusively dedicated for the use of children. Parents and other adults may help children, but should preserve the sanctity of the youths pond. The park is at 18 S. Sunset St. in Longmont.

Largemouth bass, black crappie, black bullheads, blue-gills, green sunfish and carp are all naturally producing species that live in Izaak Walton Pond. The program also stocks rainbow trout in the spring, and channel catfish in the early summer.

Preregistration is required for the four fishing clinic sessions that are available. Sessions will be at 8 a.m., 9:15 a.m., 10:15 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. Participants should arrive 15 minutes before their registered session, which all offer the same content. Children may attend clinics without registering, but are not guaranteed a rod and a reel.
