January 29, 2019

Five city schools should start next academic year with a safety feature many others already have : secure entrances. The Fort Wayne Community Schools board unanimously approved multiple construction agreements Monday, including a $614,790 contract with ACB General Contractor to construct secure vestibules at Abbett Elementary School, Kekionga and Northwood middle schools, South Side High School and Towles Intermediate School.Controlled entrances typically require visitors to buzz for entry and check in with front office staff. Most district schools will have secure entrances once this round of improvements is complete, facilities director Darren Hess said. The contract also includes modifications to office hallways at Memorial Park Middle School and Snider High School to improve how existing secure entrances function.asloboda@jg.net
