Florida A&M 84, Delaware St. 80, OT
NORFOLK, Va. (AP) _ Reginald Finney scored 23 points, including a crucial three-point play in overtime Saturday night, as Florida A&M beat Delaware State 84-80 in overtime to win the Mid-East Athletic Conference tournament.
Florida A&M (17-13) plays the Southland Conference winner, Northeast Louisiana (24-7), for an NCAA tournament berth. Florida A&M led by as many as 19 points in the first half and had a 44-29 halftime lead.
Delaware State (19-11) went on a 25-10 run to open the second half to tie the score at 54 on Tom Davis’ 3-pointer with 11:26 remaining.
The lead changed hands four times before Florida A&M took a 77-74 lead with 1:50 left. Victor Ford tied the score at 77 and sent the game into overtime with a 3-pointer with 19 seconds remaining. Florida A&M was unable to get a shot off before the buzzer.
Delaware took a 80-77 lead on a trio of free throws in overtime. Thomas Dow cut the lead to 80-79 on a layup and Finney put A&M ahead for good, 82-80, on his three-point play with 1:47 remaining. Kelvin Daniels’s jumper with two seconds left to wrapped up the scoring.
Tom Davis led Delaware State with 21 points, while Emanuel Davis had 20. Daniels had 20 points for Florida A&M, while Delon Turner added 16.
