Lakeside scores 100 points in victory over Mauston

December 20, 2018

LAKE MILLS — Lakeside’s offense could not be stopped.

The Warriors used hot shooting and transition baskets to run away with a 100-69 nonconference win against visiting Mauston on Tuesday.

Senior Cameron Paske scored 25 points and senior Will DeNoyer made five 3-pointers en route to finishing with 21.

Lakeside (5-1) used an 18-2 run in the closing stages of the first half to extend its lead to 41-19 after DeNoyer hit a 3-point shot from the left wing.

In the second half, Mauston (4-2) mounted a comeback effort led by senior guard Joe Bauer who poured in 30 points. Bauer made a couple of deep outside shots and shot 9-for-11 from the free-throw line.

Lakeside’s 18-point halftime advantage provided the team a cushion.

“That was really big,” Lakeside head coach Kirk DeNoyer said. “We knew they were a good offensive team. We knew they were going to make that run. They hit some deep threes in the second half. That kind of carried us through.”

The Warriors led 10-3 in the opening minutes after Paske scored on the inside, then hit a 3. The 18-2 run started with a Matthew Davis shot from behind the arc and senior Jack Monis added layups on three straight offensive possessions, part of his 17-point total, to push the lead to 32-17 with 5 minutes, 45 seconds to play.

DeNoyer made a 3 from the left side followed by a Paske 3-point play to give Lakeside a 38-19 lead.

“That might have been as good of a game as I’ve seen Cam play,” Kirk DeNoyer said. “He blocked shots and rebounded well. Jack’s been consistent for us all year.”

Mauston is the favorite to win the South Central Conference and Bauer leads an up-tempo offense that isn’t easily bottled up.

“He took a lot of shots and made a lot of real tough shots,” Kirk DeNoyer said. “He hit some deep 3s. He’s a good player.”

Lakeside’s Caleb Kuepers scored eight points and Brevin Jegerlehner chipped in six.

Lakeside had 11 players score and shot 19-for-23 from the free-throw line.

“We just executed everything so well,” Kirk DeNoyer said. “We shot the ball well. We had balance inside and outside. Real proud of how the guys played tonight.”

For Mauston, Cade Hall notched 17 points and Gage Kobylski finished with seven.

Lakeside plays Milwaukee North on Thursday, Dec. 27, in the Lake Mills Classic at 1:30 p.m.
