Police: Men accused of murder in possible revenge shootings

September 25, 2018

NATCHEZ, Miss. (AP) — Two men are accused of killing a man and wounding two others in retaliation for another fatal shooting.

The Natchez Democrat reports 20-year-olds Jamaien Washington and Darryl K. Hurts Jr. have been arrested on charges including murder for the series of Saturday shootings that killed 25-year-old Lewis Jackson III. Adams County Sheriff Travis Patten says five other suspects are in custody, and Natchez Police Chief Walter Armstrong says more arrests are expected.

Armstrong says authorities believe the shootings were in retaliation for a fatal 2017 shooting in which several men in a truck drove around the area while firing guns. Investigators believe a shooting earlier this month that killed one man and wounded two others also is related to the 2017 killing.

It’s unclear if Washington or Hurts have lawyers.
