MORENO VALLEY, Calif. (AP) _ A 5-year-old boy died after getting shut in a sofa bed by an uncle who didn’t realize the child had crawled into bed beside him, authorities said Friday.
Sgt. Mark Lohman, a spokesman for the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, said it appeared the man woke up about 1:30 a.m. Thursday to go to work and folded up the bed with the boy inside.
``Absent any surprises, we anticipate no arrests,″ Lohman said.
The boy was identified as Scott Dunn. An autopsy will be done next week to determine his cause of death.
Family members reported the boy missing just before 9 a.m. Thursday. Moreno Valley police arrived several minutes later and found the boy’s grandfather holding the child in his arms outside the home.
The boy has a twin brother.
