Tornado warning issued for central Florence County until 1:15 p.m.
FLORENCE, SS.C. -- Central Florence County is under a tornado warning until 1:15 p.m. Sunday.
At 12:40 p.m. Sunday, the National Weather Service issued the warning.
The agency said a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located near Friendfield, eight miles northeast of Lake City. The storm is moving north at 40 mph.
Radar indicated rotation.
“Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without shelter,” the statement said. “mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed. Damage to roofs, windows and vehicles will occur. Tree damage is likely.
“Locations include Florence, Hyman, Mars Bluff, Friendfield, Claussen, Francis Marion University, Evergreen, Carolinas Hospital System, McLeod Regional Medical Center, Carolinas Hospital System-Cedar Tower and HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital.”
Residents are urged to “TAKE COVER NOW! Move to a basement of an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Avoid windows. If you are outdoors, in a mobile home or in a vehicle, moev to the closest substantial shelter and protect yourself from flying debris.”
