December 23, 2018

1944–2018

Margaree “Ree” Kaye Owens Dutson Roper, 74, born January 15, 1944, has changed her address to Heaven as of December 21, 2018. We slowly lost her to Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease.

After graduating from Delta High School in 1962, she attended Utah State University. She then worked at the LDS Church Office Building as an operator for the General Authorities; attended LDS Business College, studying fashion design, and modeled for Sears catalogs. While in her 30’s and as a single mother of four children, she continued her education and earned her Bachelor’s degree in teaching. She enjoyed success as a teacher, an artist, Mary Kay consultant, and marionette designer. Vard and Ree combined their talents in the late 1980’s and were commissioned to make the Glockenspiel that can be seen at the Midway Town Hall.

Ree was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She loved to sew, draw, paint, cook, bake, can, garden, dance, puppeteer, play the piano, decorate, collect treasures, be in style, sell Mary Kay, teach children, go to church, travel, watch movies, be outdoors, and prune roses. She also loved the holidays, snowflakes, family dinners, music, photos, paper, clouds, trees, twinkling lights, animals (especially horses) and ALL of her family and friends.

Ree was an amazing woman who rose above difficult circumstances to achieve great things. She chose to develop deep compassion and caring for others. She treated people kindly. She found the good in people. She was understanding and forgiving. She touched many lives in beautiful ways. She was fun, wise, courageous, strong, accepting, supportive, kind and generous.

She will forever be remembered as a strong woman who had a strong love for others. We will miss her unconditional love, her twinkling eyes, her sweet smiles, and how she never forgot how to say “thank you” and “I love you.”

Ree is survived by her loving family which includes her siblings, Karalee Church (Doug), Raelynn Western (Wally), Loene Dutson (Gary), Allen Owens (Joyce), Laurie Thalman (John). She married Gill H Dutson in 1967 and had “Hers”−Wendy Kaefer (Kevin), Tanya Noorda, Garrett Dutson (Summer), and Chris Dutson (Carrie); she married Vard A. Roper and “His” joined the family in 1981−Kevin Roper (Trudy), Kim Roper (Jody), Kris Roper (Danna), Korry Roper (Stacey), and Kathy Johnson. In 1982 they had “Ours”−Markai Aston (Wes). Ree is the proud grandma of 33 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and at least 22 grandpets.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Vard A Roper; her loving parents, Millard and Margaret Owens; grandchild, Tiana Roper; and spoiled pets, Bogey, Casper, Sambo, Boppers, Spanky, Meg, Chocolate, Cody, Jim, Spot, E.T., Chessy, Bandit, Bambo, and Lolly.
