GONZALES, La. (AP) — A former employee of a Louisiana city is accused of putting more than $2,000 of personal expenses on a city gas card last year.

The Advocate of Baton Rouge reports 28-year-old Jermoin Harrell is charged with theft. A Thursday release by the Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office says Harrell was fired from the Gonzales Department of Public Works in October for unrelated reasons.

The release says deputies began investigating reports of the card's improper use in May 2017. Harrell was arrested Monday and released after posting bail. It's unclear if he has a lawyer.
