GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip (AP) _ Four Palestinians were killed Monday in a mysterious explosion in the Gaza Strip, Palestinian doctors and witnesses said.

A fifth man was seriously wounded.

The dead men were discovered in a torched car about 600 yards from the Sufa crossing between Israel and the Gaza Strip. Kalashnikov assault rifles were found near the vehicle.

Mohammed Abu Aram, a farmer, said he heard an explosion near his land. ``I found a Subaru. It was completely destroyed, and human body parts were spread about 10 yards around the car,″ said Abu Aram, 39.

The dead men were not immediately identified. The wounded man was taken to Nasser Hospital in the nearby town of Khan Yunis.

Abu Aram said an Israeli tank was positioned near a wire fence on the Israeli side of the frontier.

The Israeli military said it was checking the report.
