No plans to relaunch search for missing Washington hiker

August 1, 2019

VERLOT, Wash. (AP) — Authorities say they have no plans to relaunch search efforts for a hiker who went missing near Vesper Peak in Washington state last summer.

The Daily Herald reported Thursday that Seattle hiker Samantha Sayers didn’t return from the scenic but treacherous trail on Aug. 1, 2018.

The Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office led the search that involved helicopters, tracking dogs and skilled alpinists. It was called off after three weeks.

Sheriff’s spokeswoman Courtney O’Keefe says the search will remain suspended unless new information surfaces.

Sayers’ boyfriend Kevin Dare says he continues to search for her. He started going back to the mountain in May and has spent about 10 days on the effort this year.
