Bride, Maid of Honor Critically Injured in Crash; Groom Arrested
PORT WASHINGTON, N.Y. (AP) _ A bride, her father and her maid of honor were injured in a wedding-day car crash, and the bridegroom was charged with drunken driving, police said Wednesday.
The women were listed in critical condition at North Shore Hospital in Manhasset. The father had minor neck, back and leg injuries, officials said.
The accident occurred during a trip to a grocery store to get more food for a celebration after the wedding Tuesday of Orlando Rubio, 25, and Margarita Rodriguez, 35, Nassau County police Detective Paul Vitucci said.
The couple, with Margarito Velasquez, 71, the bride’s father, and the maid of honor, Sandra Garcia, 30, were returning from the store to their home in Port Washington when the car, driven by Rubio, hit a bridge abutment, the detective said.
Rubio also was charged with vehicular assault and driving without a license, Officer James Higgins said.
