England win toss, bat in 3rd ODI vs. Australia

SYDNEY (AP) — England won the toss and chose to bat Sunday in the third one-day cricket international against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

Australia, which leads the five-match series 2-0, made three changes to its lineup, naming fast bowler James Pattinson to play his first one-day international since September, 2012.

The home team also recalled Xavier Doherty and Dan Christian while omitting Mitchell Johnson, George Bailey and Clint McKay.

England made two changes, naming James Tredwell and Stuart Broad in place of Joe Root and Boyd Rankin.

Pattinson was recalled for his first match for Australia since he suffered a serious back injury in the second Ashes test against England at Lord’s in July.


Australia: Aaron Finch, David Warner, Shaun Marsh, Michael Clarke (captain), Dan Christian, Glenn Maxwell, Brad Haddin, James Faulkner, James Pattinson, Xavier Doherty, Nathan Coulter-Nile.

England: Alastair Cook (captain), Ian Bell, James Tredwell, Gary Ballance, Eoin Morgan, Ravi Bopara, Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler, Tim Bresnan, Chris Jordan, Stuart Broad.

Umpires: Simon Fry, Australia, and Ranmore Martinesz, Sri Lanka.

Television umpire: Kumar Dharmasena, Sri Lanka. Match referee: Ranjan Madugalle, Sri Lanka.
