TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP) _ Quarterback Mike Neu scored the go-ahead touchdown on a 1-yard run and passed for another TD as Ball State beat Indiana State 14-10 on Saturday.
Ball State (3-2) gained possession of the Victory Bell for possibly the last time. The Cardinals have a 35-23-1 record in the state series.
Akron will join Ball State in the Mid-American Conference next year, which could bump Division I-AA Indiana State (2-2) of the Gateway Conference from the Cardinals’ schedule. Ball State plays in Division I-A.
Neu passed 11 yards to Travis Moore for Ball State’s first TD at 5:40 of the first quarter. Neu completed 17 of 22 passes for 164 yards.
The Sycamores got their lone TD on a 12-yard pass to Demetrius Dowler from Ray Allen, who completed five of 15 passes for 50 yards.
Neu ran in from a yard out with 1:25 left before halftime to give Ball State a 14-7 lead.
After a scoreless third period, Indiana State took 7:25 and 14 plays to get within range for Krieger, who kicked a 42-yard field goal with 14:50 to play.
Corey Croom gained 112 yards on 27 carries for the Cardinals. Derrick Franklin was Indiana State’s top rusher with 107 yards on 27 carries.
