April 30, 1988

BREMERHAVEN, West Germany (AP) _ A car ferry undergoing repairs hit a dock Friday and tipped over, temporarily trapping 21 crewmen and workers, but no injuries were reported, police said.

Port authority officials said the cause of the accident was being investigated.

Harbor police said the accident occurred at 3:15 p.m. when the 600-foot ferry crashed into the Seebeck dock in this northwestern port.

Police spokesman Peter Gusovius said all 21 crewmen and workers aboard were rescued by helicopters and boats.

″They were all taken from the ferry,″ he said. ″No one was in the water.″

Gusovius said the ferry Kattegat is registered in the Philippines and was in Bremerhaven for repairs. Crews were working Friday evening to right the vessel, he said.
