Phillies-Mariners trade..Dodgers ink manager Dave Roberts...Walk-on honors
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Two people familiar with the deal say the Philadelphia Phillies are finalizing a trade with the Seattle Mariners to acquire two-time All-Star shortstop Jean Segura for veteran slugger Carlos Santana and infielder J.P. Crawford. Both people spoke on condition of anonymity because the deal hasn’t been officially announced. The Phillies also get left-hander James Pazos and righty Juan Nicasio in the deal.
LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Los Angeles Dodgers have agreed on a four-year contract with manager Dave Roberts, which would keep him at the helm of the team through 2022. Roberts just finished his third season as the Dodgers’ skipper during which he led LA to its second straight World Series. Los Angeles lost in five games to the Boston Red Sox in October. The Dodgers lost the 2017 World Series in seven games to the Houston Astros.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The Eagles, who are five and six for the season, host the Redskins tonight. Washington is six and five headed into tonight’s crucial NFC east faceoff.
PITTSBURGH (AP) —The Daniel Sprong experiment is over for the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Penguins have traded Sprong to the Anaheim Ducks for defenseman Marcus Pettersson. Pittsburgh selected Sprong in the second round of the 2015 draft but the 21-year-old struggled to find a secure spot in Pittsburgh’s forward group. Sprong had four goals in 42 games across parts of three seasons for the Penguins. Pettersson has one goal in 49 games with the Ducks.
SPRINGDALE, Ark. (AP) — Clemson wide receiver Hunter Renfrow has won the Burlsworth Trophy, which goes to the top college football who began his career as a walk-on. Renfrow was chosen over fellow finalists California running back Patrick Laird and Wyoming safety Marcus Epps.
