England reaches 101-2 against Sri Lanka
LONDON (AP) — England reached 101-2 after 20.4 overs before rain stopped play in the opening one-day international against Sri Lanka at The Oval on Thursday.
England captain Alastair Cook fell for 11 with a loose drive and Ian Bell was caught for 50 on the last ball before the rain.
England’s Ravi Bopara dislocated a finger in practice, minutes before the toss, but was judged fit to play as England were asked to bat first at the start of the five-match series.
Facing a Sri Lanka team unbeaten in one-day matches this year, England named Gary Balance as number three batsman at the expense of Michael Carberry.
