New York man charged in cold case sex assault in New Jersey
HACKENSACK, N.J. (AP) — A New York City man has been charged in a sexual assault that occurred in New Jersey 14 years ago.
Authorities say Roydell Cameron was arrested March 29 at JFK Airport as he tried to board a flight to Jamaica. He remains jailed in New York pending extradition to New Jersey.
The arrest was announced Thursday.
Authorities say an expanded cold case homicide unit helped develop DNA evidence in the case, which led to Cameron being identified as a suspect. The 39-year-old Bronx man is accused of raping a woman at gunpoint in Palisades Park in April 2005.
Cameron faces two counts of sexual assault, as well as a weapons offense and a charge of making terroristic threats. It wasn’t known Thursday if he’s retained an attorney.
