BASEBALL: Irish junior high end season in Elite Eight

October 1, 2018

Bishop McNamara’s junior high baseball team made school history over the weekend when they traveled to East Peoria for the school’s first-ever IESA Baseball State Finals appearance.

The Irish bowed out in the Elite Eight on Friday, falling on the short end of a 5-1 game against Teutopolis.

Michael O’Connor pitched well in the loss for the Irish. All five of his runs were unearned, as he allowed just five hits and struck out nine batters in a complete game effort.

Jaxson Provost, Drew Willis and Collin Barzantny had a hit apiece for the Irish. Provost scored the lone Irish run, driven in by Cal Darling.

Despite the short experience downstate, coach Adrian Provost was thrilled to have gone for the ride with his Irish team this season.

“We are the first team in Bishop McNamara Junior High history to make it to the State Finals,” Adrian Provost said. “This group finished 14-3 and I am beyond blessed to have been a part of this journey with them.”
