SELLING SPOKANE

SPOKANE, Wash. - As the Seattle area becomes more crowded and more expensive, Spokane Mayor David Condon sees an opportunity to grow the state’s second-largest city. BAD FIRE SEASON

MOUNT VERNON, Wash. — Wildfire responders in Western Washington — including Skagit County — are preparing for a particularly bad wildfire season. With less precipitation than normal so far in 2019 and snowpack in the North Cascades depleting rapidly, conditions are already abnormally dry and much of the western side of the state has been declared in or at risk of drought. “It’s going to be a dry summer and any outdoor burns are going to be risky,” Skagit County Deputy Fire Marshal Mark Anderson said. “We saw that in March.” An AP Member Exchange by Kimberly Cauvel and Kera Wanielsta, Skagit Valley Herald. NEW ZEALAND-BOEING ORDERS

WELLINGTON, New Zealand — Air New Zealand announced Monday that it has ordered eight new Boeing Dreamliner planes with a list price of $2.7 billion. The nation’s flagship carrier said it negotiated a substantial discount on the price it will pay for the 787-10 planes, which is typical for such purchases. It said the new planes will replace its fleet of eight Boeing 777-200s, and it will take delivery of the new planes over a period of five years beginning in 2022. SENT: 250 words. With AP Photos.
