Cunningham helps East to 20-8 victory in Shrine game
BAKER CITY — Glide’s Cyller Cunningham scored a game-clinching 1-yard touchdown run with 4:11 left, helping the East to a 20-8 win over the West Saturday night in the 66th annual Oregon Shrine All-Star Football game at Bulldog Stadium.
Jerry Daniels (Stayton) and Wyatt DeForest (La Pine) also scored TDs for the East, which led 6-0 at halftime. Brandon Peite (Regis) caught a 44-yard scoring pass for the West in the fourth quarter and Andrew Harrington (Oakland) ran in the two-point conversion.
Cunningham rushed for 12 yards on five carries in the contest.
Ted Wickman (Yoncalla) caught a 29-yard pass for the West. Nic Freeman (Oakland), Taylor Gross (South Umpqua), Jonathan Warner (S.U.), Anthony Rondeau (S.U.) and Jacob Payne (Camas Valley) also played for the West. Gross had one carry for 12 yards.
Steve Stebbins (S.U.) was a coach for the West.
The contest was delayed for about 30 minutes due to a lightning storm at the end of the first quarter.
The game features the top graduated seniors in classes 4A, 3A, 2A and 1A. The East leads the series 33-30-3.
