WAILUKU, Hawaii (AP) — Authorities are searching for two suspects in the robbery and kidnapping of a California couple on Maui.

The couple, both 25, say they were enjoying the views of Nakalele Point on Wednesday when they were approached by a masked man and woman brandishing firearms, Hawaii News Now reported (http://bit.ly/2nuaNX4).

Police said the suspects forced the couple to travel to different locations, including a Wailuku drug store where they were ordered to purchase cash cards totaling $1,300.

Both victims were eventually released with their rental vehicle. They called police after returning to their hotel.

The couple told investigators they had not tried to escape because they feared for their safety and their lives were threatened.

The suspects stole $9,000 worth of the victims' personal belongings.

Police released surveillance video on Monday showing what appears to be the female suspect entering a store with the victims.

The female suspect is described to be in her 20s, 5 feet 6 inches tall and approximately 120-130 lbs. with long, black hair and brown eyes.

The male suspect is described to be in his 30s, about 5 feet 10 inches tall and roughly 180 lbs. with short, dark hair.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Maui police.
